September 2010 – New Maximum Occupancy System Introduced

Ceiling mounted infra-red sensors are used to detect people while onboard image processing software accurately identifies their direction of travel. The first installation utilises four of these units, one at each of the main entry/egress points of a large Academic Library building. Each unit feeds back visitor count information to the on-site Sentry Access Control System which is then able to monitor overall occupancy.

The building has a maximum occupancy governed by Fire and Health and Safety Regulations, and Sentry warns staff when this threshold is being approached. It is envisaged that installations at other sites will also have the option to prevent further people entering by means of system-controlled barriers or door locks.
